The Otona is an electric kakigori machine designed for home use. A motor drives the blade directly, making it faster and more consistent than hand-cranked alternatives. The adjustable blade height lets you control texture from coarse flakes to fine snow — the lightest setting produces the airy, melt-in-your-mouth texture that traditional Japanese kakigori is known for.
The machine uses dedicated ice cups: fill them with water and freeze, then slot the frozen cup directly into the machine. While I do love the very thin shave it gets, the machine is not capable of filling getting through one of the ice disks, there is always a a few centimeters thick remainder of the ice that you have to manually take out because the machine isn’t able to push it into the blades sadly.
