Sori Yanagi (1915–2011) is one of Japan's most celebrated industrial designers, best known for the Butterfly Stool (1954). His stainless steel kitchen utensils are still in production and are prized for the same reason as his furniture: the form follows the function so precisely that nothing is wasted. This cocktail spoon has the characteristic long handle and twisted shaft that allows smooth stirring without lifting the glass, and the curved bowl for precision pouring of layered liquids. On a kakigori setup, it is used to stir syrups in the bottle before pouring and to fold toppings into the shaved ice without collapsing the mound.
